Google Unveils Pixel 9 Series, Expands Presence in Indian Market
In a bold move to capture a larger share of the Indian smartphone market, Google has launched its latest AI-powered Pixel 9 series, accompanied by an expanded after-sales service network and increased retail presence across the country.
The new Pixel 9 lineup features three models: the standard Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL. These devices showcase Google’s Gemini design language, with the iconic Pixel camera bar taking center stage. The Pro models boast Super Actua displays and an impressive 42MP front camera, promising superior low-light selfies. The standard Pixel 9 isn’t far behind, offering a 6.3-inch Actua display with enhanced brightness and an upgraded camera system inherited from its Pro siblings.
Pricing for the Pixel 9 series in India starts at Rs 79,999 for the base model, with the Pro and Pro XL variants priced at Rs 1,09,999 and Rs 1,24,999 respectively. To sweeten the deal, Google is offering a range of launch promotions, including a Google One AI Premium subscription and attractive bank offers.
At the heart of these new devices lies the Tensor G4 chip, developed in collaboration with Google DeepMind. This processor is optimized for advanced AI models and introduces Gemini Nano with Multimodality, enabling simultaneous processing of text, images, and audio. This technological leap paves the way for more intuitive and powerful AI features.
One such feature is Gemini Live, available on the Pro models. This groundbreaking tool allows users to engage in natural, hands-free conversations with Google’s AI assistant, Gemini, offering a new level of convenience and functionality.
Google is also entering the foldable market with the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, priced at Rs 1,72,999. This device combines Google’s largest phone display with a sleek, foldable design and boasts what the company claims to be the best camera system on any foldable phone.
Complementing the smartphone lineup are the Pixel Buds Pro 2 and Pixel Watch 3. The Pixel Buds Pro 2, priced at Rs 22,900, feature a custom-designed Tensor A1 chip for enhanced audio performance and seamless AI integration. The Pixel Watch 3, available in two sizes, offers larger displays, improved battery life, and advanced fitness tracking capabilities, with prices starting at Rs 39,990.
In a significant move to enhance customer experience, Google is opening three Walk-in Centers in collaboration with Flipkart’s service arm. Located in Delhi, Bengaluru, and soon Mumbai, these centers will provide comprehensive support for Pixel owners.
Google is also expanding its offline retail presence through partnerships with Croma and Reliance Retail. Approximately 150 stores across 15 Indian cities will now offer Pixel products, allowing customers to experience the devices before purchase.
The Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL are set to hit the market on August 22. While Flipkart remains Google’s primary online retail partner, the expanded offline presence caters to customers who prefer in-store experiences.
To make its ecosystem more accessible, Google has announced price reductions on its previous-generation Pixel phones. These cuts, ranging from Rs 2,000 to Rs 7,000, apply to various models of the Pixel 8, 8 Pro, 8a, and 7a.
This comprehensive strategy – encompassing cutting-edge hardware, expanded support infrastructure, and wider retail availability – demonstrates Google’s strong commitment to the Indian smartphone market. By offering advanced AI-powered devices and improving accessibility, Google aims to carve out a significant niche in one of the world’s largest and most competitive smartphone markets.
